A sign of life

Hello everyone!

You haven’t heard or read anything from me for a long time. After spending a few months abroad last year and having a new family member almost immediately afterwards, it was actually quite difficult for me to indulge in my hobby. Problems with finding and keeping appointments actually brought me to other interests, especially (solo) board games and painting miniatures (hopefully to be able to play solo skirmishers soon) were not exactly conducive. Now I’m slowly feeling my way back to roleplaying and hope to reduce my pile of shame. The fact that my daughter is developing a similar fascination with dice and their uses and her desire to play Dad’s stuff will hopefully benefit me. So, don’t be surprised if the focus sometimes shifts to family-friendly games.

Hello RPG-World!

Moreover, welcome to Dice Adventurer. This is the English counterpart of my German roleplaying blog I started in September 2015. Everything started when I had a hard time to find players to try new and smaller rpgs. Therefore, I wanted to promote new, unknown and interesting roleplaying games to a broader audience in Germany.

Now I want to take another step and present my work to the English community. I have a soft spot for lightweight rule systems and I am a huge fan of the Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) and Forged in the Dark-Games (FitD). I like to read and try out new games and love to write about them. I usually don’t write reviews in a traditional sense and prefer to make something like a short introduction where I tell about the important features of those games. Most of the time you won’t find me doing math on probabilities or telling you how many pages a chapter has. However, I like to write a short overview who could like and who could dislike those games and we play those games so you can get a report of the session. I think this is a good way to get a feeling for the game.

I like to do one-shots or small campaigns and I love sandboxes. You’ll see that I have a pool of players but often we have new players who never played roleplaying games. I love to teach new games and promote this wonderful hobby.

I’m always happy to get feedback and recommendations. With this blog I also want to enhance my English, because I am not a native speaker.

I hope you enjoy my blog and the games I introduce.
